Enjoying Bournemouth for Mobility Impaired Visitors

Mobility impaired visitors have great opportunities to enjoy the Bournemouth experience. Did you know that:

  • beach wheelchairs fitted with balloon tyres are available for visitors to give easy access onto the sand
  • carers accompanying disabled visitors can enjoy free use of the land trains, cliff lifts giving easy direct access to the seafront and free access to Bournemouth Pier. They are located on the west cliff near Bournemouth International Centre, the East Cliff which is in front of the Carlton Hotel and Fisherman’s walk in Southbourne.
  • in the Summer months, a beach track way to the west of Boscombe Pier is rolled out daily to provide access for all types of wheelchair from the Promenade to the high water mark
  • there are accessible parking spaces on the Promenade between the piers with the entrance close to Boscombe Pier
  • fully accessible toilet facilities are available along the seafront, using RADAR keys
  • all of Bournemouth’s gardens are accessible with wide level pathways (although the Alum
  • chine gardens are on steep incline).there are two accessible beach-huts located at Boscombe – unique in the UK – they can be booked through the Boscombe seafront office
  • there are a number of sports for people with a disability at Boscombe  further information can be obtained from Boscombe seafront office
  • there are special showers and toilets at Boscombe for the disabled
